Visit to Pollina

Pollina Sicily

Not far from Cefalù and Campofelice di Roccella, there is a sea village from ancient origins, but still alive charm. We are talking about Pollina, an ancient town in the Northern coast of Sicily, inside the Madonie Park.

The history of Pollina is ancient, because it has its origins in the period when the ancient Greeks were beginning to colonize the Sicilian coast. Today, walking around Pollina, is possible to admire a very special view. Looking inland, you can admire the villages that dot the Madonie Park; moving it in the opposite direction, however, you can observe the blue sea of Pollina: if you are lucky, on clear days, you can see the Aeolian Islands.

Also the streets of the village hide treasures, such as the Romanesque monument of the Church of San Giuliano, saint patron of Pollina. The first testimonies abou the Castle emerge already in 1081, today remain the perimeter walls and the tower located at the top of the summit. Behind the walls are the houses of the town built during the following centuries. At the foot of the tower, in the 70s of the 20th century, a theater was built in Hellenistic style to emphasize the connection of the village with Magna Grecia. The theater was called Pietrarosa because it was built with a particular type of rock that at sunset takes pink shades.
